BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (4-8) suffered a 3-0 setback to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (7-4) Saturday morning on the second day of the Hoosier Classic. FGCU won the match, which was played at University Gym on the campus of Indiana University, by set scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-14.
The Eagles outhit the Rebels by 399 points (.462 to .063), with help from 23 more kills (44-21) and eight fewer attack errors (8-16) in one fewer attack attempt (78-79). The squad from Fort Myers, Florida, hit no worse than .364 in any set and topped out with a .519 efficiency in the third frame. UNLV, on the other hand, led off with its best effort of the contest, .129 in the first.
STAT OF THE GAME: FGCU was a plus-14 (kills minus errors) in both the first (16-2) and third (15-1) sets and plus-8 in the second (13-5), which helped its offense amass .483 (first set), .364 (second) and .519 (third) hitting figures. UNLV; however, was plus-5 for the match (21-16).
QUOTABLE:"We are definitely showing our inexperience, right now," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Our passing was really poor today, so the offense never got on track. We'll keep working and hopefully take care of some things."
REBEL NOTES:
*Ashley Owens is six assisted blocks shy of tying former Rebel Christel Eves (1996-99) for fourth place in the program's all-time record book. Owens has 325; Eves has 331. Owens sits fourth in total blocks (369) and ninth in solo blocks (44).
*With its win Saturday, FGCU pulled even with UNLV in the all-time head-to-head history (1-1); the Rebels won 3-0 in 2010.

REBELS RETURN HOME: Following its trip to Indiana as well as Mountain West stops in Laramie, Wyoming, and Fort Collins, Colorado, UNLV will open its portion of conference play at the Cox Pavilion on September 28 against Utah State (6:00 pm). The Rebels will host Boise State two days later (September 30)/3:00 pm).
