UNLV takes on second-seed UTRGV.
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â The UNLV men's soccer team, which won three of five to close out the regular season and clinch a spot in this week's WAC Tournament, opens play in the quarterfinal round Wednesday at 4 pm against UTRGV on the Seattle University campus.Â
UNLV comes into this week at full strength, and are traditionally a strong tournament team under head coach Rich Ryerson, especially in the WAC. The Rebels have advanced to the semifinals in four straight seasons, though to do so this year they will need to upset UTRGV, who holds the No. 2 seed thanks to its 8-3 league record. UTRGV was the hottest team in the league in the month of October, having won seven of eight games following an overtime loss at top-seed Air Force.Â
The Rebels have met UTRGV once before in tournament play, as in the 2016 tournament fourth-seeded UNLV rallied past the fifth-seed for a 3-2 win on the way to an eventual tournament title. This is the first time UNLV has been the seventh seed in the WAC tournament, its previous highest seed was #4, in the 2016 event.
All games in the WAC Tournament are being broadcast by the WAC Digital Network on ESPN+.
