SATURDAY'S PREVIEW: One side is sure to earn its second victory of the season Saturday afternoon when UNLV (1-4/0-2) closes out its non-conference schedule with a trip to Nashville to play Vanderbilt (1-4/0-3) for the first time ... The Rebels, who are in a stretch of four road dates in five outings, will make only their third visit to the state and first since playing at Tennessee in Knoxville in 2004 ... This will mark UNLV's first appearance on the SEC Network ... Last Saturday, UNLV dropped its Mountain West home opener, 38-13, vs. now-14th-ranked Boise State ... The Commodores, in the words of the late David Bowie, are going "Rebel Rebel" by hosting UNLV just one week after facing the other FBS Rebels, Ole Miss, in Oxford ... Rebel junior quarterback Armani Rogers has not played in the last six quarters after getting knocked out of the game at Wyoming. That was the same game he became his school's career leader and moved into 10th place on the Mountain West all-time list for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,549 ... Redshirt freshman signal-caller and local product Kenyon Oblad has spelled Rogers ever since and now leads the team with 563 passing yards and three touchdowns ... While he has only had 16 carries in the last two weeks, (including exiting the Wyoming game with an injury after just five attempts), running back Charles Williams comes into Saturday as the No. 17 rusher in the FBS with 105.8 yards per game, including a career-high 168 vs. Arkansas State in Week Two.

REBELS vs. COMMODORES NOTES: This kicks off a home-and-home series that will see the Commodores return the game in Las Vegas on Sept. 16, 2023 ... Vanderbilt is the first team that UNLV faces for the first time in history since the Rebels traveled to play Ohio State in 2017 ... UNLV is 2-2 all-time vs. teams from the Volunteer State (0-2 vs. UT, 1-0 vs. Tenn. State and 1-0 vs. Tenn. Tech) ... Aside from the two games in Knoxville (1996 & 2004), UNLV has tussled with just two other SEC teams in its history: lost 43-40 in OT at Ole Miss in 2000, defeated Arkansas 31-14 in the 2000 Las Vegas Bowl and dropped a 14-10 heart-breaker to the Razorbacks in Little Rock in 2001 ... The only Mountain West teams Vanderbilt has faced are Air Force (five games played between 1976-82) and UNR (hosted the Wolf Pack last season) ... Vandy does have future games scheduled vs. both Colorado State and Hawai'i ... One Rebel, starting LB Rayshad Jackson who is a grad transfer from Florida, has faced the Dores before, including recording three solo tackles in the Gators' 2018 win in Nashville.
