LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV cross country team's
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete and
Emma Wahlenmaier posted personal-best 6K times Saturday at Sacramento State's Capital Cross Challenge. The juniors paced the Rebel contingent with times of 22:01.5 and 22:06.6, respectively, at the race held at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
The Scarlet & Gray finished 29th overall with a total team time of 1:54:25 and 747 points. Wilson-Perteete was 91st overall, while Wahlenmaier was 99th. The Rebels were also represented by
Elisa Rovere (22:25.2),
Agnes Mansaray (23:12.8),
Nicole Snow (24:39.3) and
Rebecca Fisher (24:45.3) in the Golden State's capital city.
The Colorado School of Mines (1:45:31/89 points) won the race, while California (1:46:06/103) and Cal Poly (1:46:26/139) were second and third, respectively.
QUOTABLE: "Avi and Emma got huge personal bests today and Elisa ran within four seconds of her time on this course at regionals last year six weeks further into the season," said cross country coach
Angelina Ramos. "Agnes' back wasn't allowing her to be the wolf she can be, but her heart was all in. Rebecca got exposed to her first 6K and paced it well, she and teammate
Nicole Snow finishing within seconds of one another. Every meet, I aim to see progression within each athlete along with shifts in mentality culturally where they're running for each other and competing against the best inside themselves on that day. It sounds simple, but it requires a lot of attention to detail on my behalf and smart decision making with each athlete's season plan. If we continue to do that--as a team, we'll achieve the success and progress we are capable of. Today, was a great day to race against teams in our conference such as San Diego State, UNR and San Jose State exactly a month out from conference to gauge areas we still need to work on as well as where we are strong."
UP NEXT: UNLV will compete in its final regular-season meet on Oct. 19 at UC Riverside's Highlander Invitational in Riverside, California. The 5K race will take place at the UCR Ag Ops Course.
