RIVERSIDE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV cross country freshman Natalia Ruiz once again led her team, finishing fourth individually out of 262 runners Saturday morning at the Highlander Invitational, which was hosted by UC Riverside at the Agg Course.
Ruiz ran the 6K in a time of 20:39. Jennifer Sandoval, who ran unattached, placed first at 19:58.
Lauren Felknor (22:59), LaKyla Yazzie (23:19), Isabella Scharder (23:19), Mackenzie Moss (23:27), Rebecca Green (23:42) and Emma Zeigler (24:05) were among the top seven Rebel performers at the event.
Zeigler, Felknor, Aitza Romero and Alexys Arroyo all made strong finishes and set personal bests in the 6K. Those athletes along with other Rebels also had substantial PRs, en route, through 5K. The field in Saturday's race was the strongest UNLV has faced this season.
The Rebels finished 15th out of the 35 teams competing.
Ruiz, who earned last week's Mountain West Cross Country Athlete and Freshman of the Week, had won each of the first three races that she competed in to start her college career.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will be back in action at Cal State Fullerton on Friday, October 22, then will compete at the Mountain West Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Friday, October 29.
