LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team played its third Pac-12 Conference power opponent of the season Tuesday afternoon and fell 6-1 to No. 17 UCLA at the LA Tennis Center.
The Rebels, continuing to play without their top player
Alex Kobelt, fell to 3-6 while the Bruins improved to 4-2.
The hosts opened up a 1-0 lead by taking all three doubles matches, including using a 10-8 tiebreaker on court three. In singles play, UCLA took five straight-setters to clinch the victory.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Jordan Sauer dropped the first set to Drew Baird at the second position but then rallied to win two tiebreakers and post his team's only point, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2).
QUOTABLE: "This was a tough match today against a very good Pac-12 team. Even without fans it was a great atmosphere. We have a couple of areas we can keep improving on as we have a quick turnaround for Friday."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV remains in Southern California and takes on San Diego Friday at 10 a.m. PT.
