LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's swimming and diving's Vuk Celic was named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics' Strategic Communications department.
A graduate student from Novi Sad, Serbia, Celic swept the individual titles in the 1650 free and 500 free to help guide the Rebels to their first WAC Championship since 2015. The Rebels' distance standout broke a WAC Championship record and school record in the 500 free (4:16.75), while moving him into 31st in the NCAA season rankings. Celic's 1650 free time (14:50.34) was the second fastest in UNLV history and ranks 10th in the nation this season, likely securing an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
Rounding out his medal count, Celic swam the first leg of UNLV's 800 relay quartet that earned the school's second straight WAC gold medal in the event with the NCAA's 14th-ranked time on the year (6:21.70).
