LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team, despite being without a couple of starters, fought off in-state rival UNR 4-1 Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The Rebels, who have won seven of the last eight against the Wolf Pack, evened their overall record at 10-10 and climbed into a tie for first place in the Mountain West with a 4-1 mark. UNR fell to 5-10 and 1-4.
 
With the victory, UNLV also earned three points in the Silver State Series presented by IBEW and Nevada Donor Network, giving the Rebels a 15-12 lead in the overall competition.
 
The hosts bolted to a 1-0 advantage by taking the first two completed doubles matches. In singles play, half of the first sets went to a tiebreaker and the Rebels took two of them.
 
First off the courts was Tom Ciszewski, who gave his team a big boost with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Loris Zisswiller on court six while three of his teammates went to three sets. That included senior Eric Samuelsson, who rallied to eventually end the proceedings with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Isaac Nortey at the second position.
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Senior Alex Kobelt, who along with Samuelsson will play his final home match on Sunday, teamed with Milos Dabic for a 6-3 doubles win on court three and then earned his team its third point with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Delmas N'Tcha at the top of the singles lineup.
  
QUOTABLE: "We came out strong in doubles and got the point quickly. However, UNR rallied in singles and made it a battle up and down the lineup. It was a close match overall but we showed our depth today I'm proud of everyone for getting the job the done without a full lineup."
