LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis squad has again earned the designation of Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team while a school-record eight individuals were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for 2021.
 
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any school that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. Head Coach Kevin Cory's program has reached that milestone six straight years and in 19 of the 22 seasons with him at the helm.
 
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a letterwinner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. Earning that standing this year were seniors En-Pei Huang, Connie Li and Sam Smith; junior Izumi Asano, sophomores Sara Alajbegovic and Leslie Fujitani and freshmen Zita Kovacs and Cindy Hu.
 
Seven of those same players, along with Olivia Elliott, were previously announced as part of a group of eight UNLV women's players to earn 2021 Academic All-Mountain West honors. To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MW Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
 
Seven Rebels – Alajbegovic, Elliot, Fujitani, Huang, Kovacs, Li and Smith -- also earned the even more impressive designation of Mountain West Scholar-Athlete, which goes to those with a cumulative GPA or 3.5 or better.
