SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV cross country team finished first overall at the San Diego City College Downey Invitational, which was held Friday at Morley Field.
The team was led individually by freshman standout Natalia Ruiz, who took first place with a course-record time of 18:01 (5k). Sophomore LaKyla Yazzie was third (19:37) with freshman Lauren Felknor finishing fourth (20:02).
Sophomores Lexy Osterkamp and Isabella Schrader had their first performances of the season, finishing sixth and ninth, respectively.
Other notable Rebels were sophomore Kaitlynn Menger, sophomore Emma Zeigler, freshman Aitza Romero and sophomore Alexys Arroyo, all with impressive kicks to the finish. Sophomore Stephanie Zamora took a fall early in the race but managed to regroup, while sophomore Olivia Hergenroeder had her first breakthrough race of the season, continuously improving throughout the race, eventually placing 12th.
