UNLV Launches New Incentives To Increase Student Attendance At Basketball Games

Custom Nike shoes will be provided through a student loyalty program and a student tailgate powered by Taco Bell planned starting on Saturday, Jan. 22

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - New incentives to increase student attendance at UNLV basketball games for the remainder of this season were announced Thursday by Director of Athletics Erick Harper in partnership with UNLV Sports Properties/Learfield.

A new student loyalty program has been created and will culminate this season with a custom Nike shoe giveaway.

Additionally, with the spring semester beginning next week and students returning to campus, a student tailgate will take place prior to each of the final six Runnin' Rebel home games this season. The first one is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22 prior to the 12 p.m. game vs. San Jose State.

"It is incredibly important that we engage our students in creative and innovative ways, getting them back to attending our games in bigger numbers," Harper said. "Thank you to our partners at Learfield for their assistance with these new initiatives and all they are doing to help promote the Rebels."

To win a pair of custom Nike shoes, UNLV students with a valid school ID must attend each of the final six men's basketball home games this season, along with the women's basketball game on March 2. Students must stay for the entirety of each game. An official punch card will be provided to those participating with punches made at the student entrance prior to tipoff and then after the game. Those who earn the custom shoes can pick up their pair on campus beginning April 1.

The first student tailgate, billed as "Welcome Back To The Mack" and sponsored by Taco Bell, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 22. Free food will be provided by Taco Bell. It will also include games, a live DJ and giveaways, including a chance to win a 2022 spring break trip planned by Tryp360.
