Rebel Girls and Company Win World Championship

The dance team made history as the first-ever co-ed National Premier Hip Hop Team to represent the U.S.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Rebel Girls and Company claimed the 2022 International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championship in the hip hop category Saturday, April 26, in Orlando, Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

"We are very proud of our awesome Rebel Girls and Company," said UNLV Director of Athletics Erick Harper. "The team is very hard working, talented, and committed to being excellent.  They exemplify our core values of service, excellence, empathy, integrity, innovation, and accountability."

Making history as the first-ever co-ed National Premier Hip Hop Team to represent the U.S., the squad won the gold medal ahead of runner-up Team England and third-place finisher Team Mexico.

"The entire coaching staff couldn't be more proud of these student-athletes for representing their country with grace and pride at the highest level of competition. Thank you to UNLV Athletics and the greater Las Vegas community for all of the support throughout this entire journey," said assistant coach Franco Paraiso.

The Rebel Girls and Company were one of three U.S. teams competing at the competition, each of which became world champions. Also standing atop their respective podiums, the Iowa State University Dance Team won the title in the National Premier Pom division and the Texas Tech Pom Squad earned the crown in the National Premier Jazz category.
