SAUCIER, Miss. (UNLVRebels.com) – After shooting a final-round 4-under 68 Wednesday, UNLV men's golf senior
Caden Fioroni finished 11th overall at the Fallen Oak Collegiate (par 72, 7,487 yards) in a stacked 12-team field that featured three Golfweek top-10 ranked teams.
Fioroni, who notched his third top-15 finish of the season, ended the Rebels' final tournament of the fall with a team-best 1-under 215. He joined 10 other individuals as the only players to shoot below par for the three-day event.
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Brett Sawaia (+3) also shot below 70 with a 3-under 29 on the day to finish tied for 20th. Wrapping up play for the Rebel lineup, freshman
Hogan Park (+7) tied for 32nd after an even-par 72 round, junior
Trevor Lewis (+10) tied for 43rd, and seniors
Yuki Moriyama (+11) and
Ben Sawaia (+12) tied for 48th and 50th, respectively.
No. 2 Auburn maintained its lead for the team victory at 21-under through 54 holes with a 19-stroke lead over No. 3 Ole Miss (-2) in second and 22-shot advantage over No. 10 Mississippi State (+1) in third. Leaving with individual medalist honors, SMU's Matthew Foster's 8-under 208 landed him ahead of the Tigers' runner-up Jackson Koivun (-7) by one shot.
UNLV (+24) concluded the event on a high note with their lowest score of all three rounds at 3-over 291 to climb two spots in the team standings to an eighth-place finish.
UP NEXT: The Rebels resume the 2023-24 campaign with their spring season opener on Jan. 29 when they tee off in Pepperdine's Southwestern Invitational.
