EAGLE ISLAND, Idaho – The UNLV women's cross country took the course for the 2023 Mountain West Women's Cross Country Championships on Friday morning, competing at Eagle Island State Park for the race. The Rebels finished the event 10th overall in the field as a team, compiling 285 points overall in the meet.
Junior
Natalia Ruiz highlighted the field with a 14th-place finish at the Mountain West Championships, earning All-Mountain West Second Team honors to represent the Scarlet & Grey. The Madrid, Span, product's conference honor marks her as the first Rebel to earn an all-conference honor at the championships since 2008. Ruiz's final time was recorded at 20:39.4, passing the 15th and 16th-place competitors in the final portion of the race.
Fifth-year senior
LaKyla Yazzie was the second Rebel to finish the race, recording a final time of 23:25.7 to finish 82nd overall. Placing 84th was
Abigail Danlag, the sophomore crossing the line at 23:28.1. Senior
Isabella Schrader clocked in at a 24:03.5 time at 84th with Jadia Lyles rounding out the scoring lineup at 90th with a 24:14.1 time.
UNLV featured five other student-athletes in the race, freshman
Eliana Rivera ending with a final time of 24:24.4. Finishing with a time of 24:32.2 was
Nicole Boskovich,
Aitza Romero recording a 25:03.8. Rounding out the lineup was
Alana Sangprasit at 25:09.4 and
Aine McDade at 25:48.1.
"The whole team has made so much progress this season," stated assistant coach
Adam Meyer. "Where we were eight weeks out compared to now is completely different. Coach Jet and I will talk this weekend about [NCAA] Regionals and how we want to attack it."
UP NEXT: The Rebels will have two weeks to prepare for the upcoming NCAA West Regional Championships, taking place in the neighboring state to the west. That race in Sacramento, Calif., will take place on Friday, Nov. 10.
