UNLV Ready For Silver State Series Showdown

UNLV and UNR will play a three-game Mountain West series beginning on Friday, April 12

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team has a big weekend ahead of them as in-state rival UNR comes to town for a three-game Mountain West series. The Rebels and Wolf Pack head into the weekend as the two top offenses in the conference. This weekend is part of the Silver State Series, presented by America First Credit Union.

Last meeting: The Wolf Pack took the series 2-1 last season in Reno on March 24-26.
 
SCOUTING UNR: UNR heads into the weekend with a 32-9 overall record and tied for first place in the league standings with a 10-3 record. The Wolf Pack hosted San Jose State in a two-game series last weekend, with UNR taking the series 2-0. Gabby Herrera is the batting leader for the Wolf Pack, hitting a .455 and has a .896 slugging percentage, which both lead the MW. Herrera has 14 home runs, which is a team and league high, as well as 50 RBI, which is second on the team and in the MW. In the circle for UNR, Tyra Clary has a 2.02 ERA with a 9-3 overall record and two saves. Carley Brown has a 2.40 ERA with a 10-2 record and two saves.
 
SERIES PROMOTIONS: Fans in attendance will receive a 2024 UNLV softball schedule poster all weekend. Additionally, the concession stand will offer $5 beers on Saturday and $6 for a hot dog, chips and water bottle or canned soda on Sunday. The Rebels will have post game autographs after every game and run the bases following Sunday's game.
 
Friday is Strike Out Cancer Night and fans can pick up a pink UNLV scrunchie and pink pom poms while supplies last. A ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by cancer survivor and UNLV softball athletic trainer Katie Draschner. There will also be a ticket giveaway to comedian Taylor Tomlinson at the Wynn. Fans in attendance can enter their name with a QR code that will be shown on the video board in game. The winner will be announced during the game as well.
 
Saturday the Rebels welcome back softball alumnae with several in attendance and a ceremonial first pitch.
 
On Sunday, there will be a second ticket giveaway to comedian Ali Wong show at the Wynn. Fans in attendance can enter their name with a QR code that will be shown on the videboard in game. The winner will be announced during the game as well.
 
TICKETS: Single-game tickets are $6 in advance and at the game $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, faculty and staff. Kids under 12, Nevada High School students with their high school ID, UNLV students are free at all home contests.

NEXT UP: UNLV will then hit the road for the next two MW series beginning at Fresno State for three games on Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21.
 
LAST TIME ON THE FIELD: UNLV played a non-conference three-game series last weekend hosting North Dakota State. The Rebels earned the series 2-1 over the Bison.
 
The squads played a doubleheader for the opening day of the series, as the two teams split the day and were set up for a rubber match in the series finale. The Rebels then run-ruled the Bison in the series finale to collect the series. In game one, the Rebels and Bison battled it out in extra innings, but UNLV fell 2-1 in nine innings. The Scarlet & Gray bounced back in game two to defeat NDSU 8-5. Jesse Farrell had a career day at the plate in game two, hitting two multi-run home runs and marked a new career-high in RBI with six. Alanna Thiede picked up the win in game two for her 14th of the season. In the series finale rubber match, the Rebels fell behind in the first inning, 2-0, against the Bison, but UNLV responded in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead and never looked back. The Rebels' offense exploded for 14 hits to go with a season-high 16 runs to earn the eighth run-rule victory of the season. UNLV scored 11 runs in the first inning, which marked the most runs scored in an inning thus far. Ellie Zellien collected her sixth win of the season in the circle. Ariana Martinez had a day at the plate going 3-for-4 including a three-run home run. Martinez had four RBI and scored two runs for the Rebels.
