Fioroni In Third After Two Rounds At Mountain West Championship

The Rebel senior is two shots off the lead after shooting a second-round 1-under 71 Saturday at Emerald Valley Golf Club

CRESWELL, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's golf senior Caden Fioroni remained in third place after Saturday's second round of the Mountain West Championship at Emerald Valley Golf Club (Par 72, 7,210 yards).

Fioroni, who shot a second-round 1-under 71, lowered his score to 5-under through 36 holes and is two shots off the lead held by Utah State's Julio Arronte (-7).

Leading the Rebel scorecard on the day, sophomore Brett Sawaia carded a 5-under 67 to jump 27 spots up the individual standings into a tie for 16th at 1-under for the tournament. Behind the Scarlet & Gray lineup's top duo are senior Yuki Moriyama (+3) in a tie for 35th, junior Trevor Lewis (+5) in a tie for 42nd and senior Ben Sawaia (+10) in a tie for 49th.

Colorado State grabbed the day-two lead with a 6-under to dip to 10-under for the tournament. The Rams hold a two-shot lead over San Diego State (-8) and San Jose State (-8) in a tie for second. As a team, UNLV ended the day with an even-par 288 to stand in seventh at 1-under.
