LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV sophomore
Ilia Snitari, top seeded and ranked 83rd nationally, won in straight sets again on Sunday to move into the final of the Mountain West Fall Qualifier being staged at the Darling Tennis Center.
Snitari defeated Utah State's Jean-Baptiste Badon 6-4, 7-6 (3), in the semifinals and will now face Boise State's Avery Tallakson on Monday starting at 11:30 a.m. for the tourney title.
UNLV's other remaining player,
Vitaliy Horovoy, lost in the consolation final on Sunday to USU's Xavier Calvelo, 6-3, 6-1.
In the second year of this new championship format, each NCAA Division 1 AQ-eligible conference will host a tournament to designate one singles player and one doubles pair on both the men's and women's side to represent them in the ITA Conference Masters tournament, which is one of four qualifying pathways to this year's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
