Runnin' Rebels To Close Out Season-Opening Homestand Tuesday Against Montana

UNLV men's basketball looks for second straight victory in 7 p.m. game at Thomas & Mack Center.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team will close out its season-opening three-game homestand by hosting Montana on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The Runnin' Rebels (1-1) are looking for their second straight win after defeating Chattanooga on Saturday. The 101-69 victory was UNLV's first under new head coach Josh Pastner, and it marked the first time since 2017 that the Runnin' Rebels scored 100 or more points in a game against a DI opponent.

Five players scored in double figures against the Mocs, led by Naas Cummingham's game-high 25 points, while Kimani Hamilton added 19 with a game-high nine rebounds. Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn and Howie Fleming Jr. each contributed 13 points, while Jacob Bannarbie chipped in 10.

After two games played, UNLV has three players averaging in double figures in scoring, with Cunningham and Hamilton leading the way at 16.0 ppg, while Gibbs-Lawhorn is at 15.5 ppg. Tyrin Jones and Bannarbie are the team's rebounding leaders, both at 6.0 rpg. Fleming Jr. leads in assists at 4.5 apg.

The Runnin' Rebels are in their first year under Pastner. Although new to UNLV, Pastner is in his 15th year as a collegiate head coach, having previously led Memphis and Georgia Tech for seven seasons each. He holds a career record of 276-188 (.595).

UNLV's roster has only one returning player, Jacob Bannarbie, and has welcomed 13 new faces. The newcomers include eight Division I transfers, a former international professional, a junior college transfer, and three freshmen.

MORE ABOUT THE ROSTER: This season's UNLV squad returned just one player from 2024-25: redshirt sophomore forward Jacob Bannarbie. The 2025-26 roster added 13 newcomers - eight Division I transfers, a former international professional, a junior college transfer, and three freshmen. The team features four seniors, three juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen, with a position breakdown of seven guards, six forwards, and a center. Last season, Bannarbie appeared in 19 games (three starts), averaging 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 6.6 minutes, and shooting 52.9% from the field on 17 attempts.

ABOUT MONTANA: The Grizzlies (2-1) opened the season with home wins over Northwest Indian College (106-41) and Ottawa (AZ) (73-39) before falling at Stanford (91-68) on Saturday. Montana has four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Money Williams' 13.3 ppg. Williams also leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 rpg and assists at 5.0 apg. Williams was named the Big Sky Conference Preseason MVP. The Grizzlies were tabbed as the Big Sky's preseason favorites as well. Montana's roster, which includes six transfers, has seven upperclassmen. One transfer of note to UNLV fans is former Runnin' Rebel Brooklyn Hicks. Montana has won at least 24 games in each of the last two seasons. Last season, the team went 25-10 overall and tied for the Big Sky's regular-season title with a league mark of 15-3. The Grizzlies won their conference's tournament and lost to Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament's first round. Head coach Travis DeCuire is in his 12th season leading the Grizzlies and has a record of 225-135 (.625) at the school.
