LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team will open up Mountain West play on the road visiting San Jose State for a three-game series on Friday, March 13 - Sunday, March 15. The Rebels and Spartans will open the weekend on Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. at Spartan Softball Complex.

Last meeting: Last season, UNLV and SJSU split the two-game series in Las Vegas. The Rebels claimed the first game 2-1 (9 innings) in walk-off fashion, but the Spartans bounced back and earned a 4-3 victory in the series finale.

SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE: San Jose State heads into the first weekend of MW play with an 8-15 overall record. The Spartans have won their last two games against Saint Mary's. SJSU is led by Ahmiya Noriega who is batting a .377 (26-for-69). Reina Zermeno leads the squad in slugging percentage with a .612 and in home runs (three) and RBI (15). In the circle, Delaney Faus leads the pitching staff with a .382 ERA in her 16 appearances. Faus has a 4-6 overall record in 66.0 innings pitched, which included four complete games, one shutout and a save. Norah Coulsell has a 4.15 ERA in her 13 appearances. Coulsell holds a 4-7 record through 59.0 innings pitched.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD: The Rebels closed out the non-conference tournament schedule going 3-2 through their home Red & Black Classic. UNLV collected wins over Loyola Marymount, North Dakota State and Utah Tech.
Natalie Turner had a solid weekend, batting a combined .615 (8-for-13) including two doubles, three walks, an RBI and scored four runs for UNLV.
Keyannah Chavez continues to stay hot at the plate, as she batted a combined .563 (9-for-16) including a team-high four doubles, a triple, two walks, an RBI and crossed the plate three times for the Rebels.
Lauren Fettic went 2-1 on the weekend in her three appearances. Fettic pitched one complete game against LMU on Saturday, March 7. She struck out a combined 11 batters, only allowing six runs and five walks. Fettic held her opponents to a .246 and had a 2.52 ERA.
Yanina Sherwood also collected a win over the weekend, which came against North Dakota State on March 6.

NEXT SERIES: The Scarlet & Gray will be back home for a four-game homestand first hosting Utah Tech on Tuesday, March 17 for a midweek contest at 4 p.m. The Rebels will then remain home for a three-game MW series against San Diego State on Friday, March 20 - Sunday, March 22.

UNLV brings back
Charelle Aki,
Bri Williams and
Maddie Scott who were among the top seven hitters from last season. Aki batted a .311 with five doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI. Williams posted a .262 batting average with three doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI. Scott played all 49 games and started 43 and batted a .223 with five doubles, team-high three triples and 10 RBI.

LAST YEAR: The Rebels had an overall record of 24-25 and a 7-15 Mountain West record. Four Rebels collected All-Mountain West honors.
Ariana Martinez picked up All-MW first team,
Jesse Farrell was named All-MW second team and
Karmyna Becerra and
Yanina Sherwood earned All-MW honorable mention.
