Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn Named Old Trapper Mountain West Men's Basketball Player Of The Week For The Third Time

Junior guard scored a total of 72 points over two games this past week, including a career-high 42 in the win over intrastate rival UNR.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced Monday.

The junior guard from Lafayette, Indiana, who transferred to UNLV from Illinois prior to this season, scored a total of 72 points in UNLV's two games this past week for an average of 36.0 ppg on 57.1% shooting (24 of 42), including 56.0% from 3-point range (14 of 25). He also made 83.3% of his free throw attempts (10 of 12), and averaged four rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a block per game.

In Saturday's thrilling 85-83 overtime win against intrastate rival UNR, he scored a career-high 42 points, which marked the most points in a game for a UNLV player since Bryce Hamilton also had 42 in 2022 at Colorado State. 

Against the Wolf Pack, Gibbs-Lawhorn was 14 of 22 from the field (57.1%) and 8 of 14 on 3-pointers (57.1%). He also made all six of his free throw attempts, while collecting four rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a blocked shot. He made the game-tying 3-pointer with 33.4 seconds left in regulation, which ended up forcing overtime.

In Wednesday's 80-67 road loss at Grand Canyon, Gibbs-Lawhorn scored 30 points on 10 of 20 shooting (50%), including 6 of 11 on 3-pointers (54.5%). He made 4 of 6 free throws, collecting four rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a blocked shot.

This was the third Mountain West Player of the Week honor for UNLV this season. Tyrin Jones was named the league's Freshman of the Week on Dec. 23.
