LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Christel Eves was named the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the Mountain Division Sunday. It marks the third time this season a UNLV volleyball player has received the honor and fourth time in the program's history.
Eves, a 5-10 junior middle blocker from Henderson, Nev., led the Rebels to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Colorado State and Wyoming to improve UNLV's record to 22-7. With the two wins, UNLV moved into second place in the Mountain Division and will have a first round bye in the 1998 WAC Volleyball Tournament.
For the week, Eves recorded 22 kills (3.14 kpg), 14 digs (2.00 dpg), two service aces, eight total blocks (1.14 bpg) and hit .571.
Against Colorado State, Eves recorded 12 kills with only one error in 20 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage. She also added five digs, four block assists, one block solo and one service aces.
Against Wyoming, Eves hit .533 (9-1-15) and added nine digs, three block assists and one service ace.
Brigham Young's Korie Rogers received the award for the Pacific Division.
UNLV will meet the winner of TCU/Utah at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the second round of the WAC Tournament at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
