Volleyball Player Nets Honor

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Meri-de Boyer was named the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the Mountain Division Monday. It marks the second time this season a UNLV volleyball player has received the honor and third time in the program's history.

Boyer, a 6-foot senior setter from Poway, Calif., led the Rebels to a 2-0 record last week with wins against SMU and TCU.

For the week, Boyer recorded 125 assists (12.50 apg), nine kills (0.90 kpg), 23 digs (2.30 dpg), 13 total blocks (1.30 bpg) and hit .318,

Against TCU, Boyer recorded a triple-double with 55 assists, 10 digs and 11 block assists. Her 11 block assists tied a single-match school record. She also added eight kills with only one error in 15 attempts for a .467 hitting percentage.

Against SMU, Boyer notched 70 assists with 13 digs. She also added two block assists and one service ace.

For the season, Boyer ranks second in the WAC in assists (13.80 apg).

Brigham Young's Korie Rogers received the award for the Pacific Division.
