RENO, Nev. - Five Rebels recorded double figures in kills as the UNLV volleyball team came from two games down to defeat Nevada, Reno 11-15, 11-15, 15-8, 17-15, 15-13 in a close match at Old Gymnasium Tuesday.
Angie Sylvas (23), Amber Graham (19), Danielle Gerlach (16), Alicia Erickson (11) and Christel Eves (10) all recorded double figures in kills for UNLV (8-3). Eves and Sylvas both recorded double-doubles in kills and digs as they recorded 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Julia Goes had a double-double in assists and digs with 78 and 10, respectively.
The win marked UNLV's third straight over UNR.
UNR (8-4) had six players record double figures and was led by Kellie LaBossiere's 23 kills. Suzanne Stonebarger led the Wolf Pack in digs with 21. Jill Couwenhoven recorded 72 assists.
The Rebels used a 6-0 run to take an 8-3 lead in the second game. The Wolf Pack came back to tie the score at 10-10 and outscored UNLV 5-1 from there.
In the third game, UNLV raced out to a 5-0 lead. UNR cut the deficit to two points at 5-3 as the Rebels scored the next seven to lead 12-3. The Wolf Pack worked their way back into it at 13-8 before UNLV scored the final two points.
UNLV used a 6-0 run to take a 6-2 lead in game four. The Rebels led 12-6 as the Wolf Pack scored eight of the next nine points to take a 14-13 lead. UNLV tied it at 14-14 and again at 15-15 before scoring the final two points.
In the rally-scoring and deciding fifth game, there were three lead changes and eight ties as neither team led by more than two points. UNLV scored four of the final five points to win the match.
UNLV will return home to Lied Gymnasium to host its first-ever Mountain West Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 2 vs. San Diego State at 7:00 p.m.
