GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Ball State defeated the UNLV volleyball team 15-2, 15-5, 15-11, in the SunTrust Invitational's consolation match at Stephen C. O'Connell Center Saturday.
Megan Hammons led Ball State (1-2) with a match-high 17 kills, while Katie Butts recorded a team-high 11 digs. Ball State out-hit UNLV .267 (50 kills, 18 errors, 120 attempts) to .189 (48-24-127).
UNLV (0-3) had three players record double figures in kills, with Leiana Oswald turning in a double-double. Oswald recorded 12 kills and 13 digs. Cordelia Palepoi led all Rebels with 14 kills and Blair Wilkes added 11. Maria Julia Goes recorded a match-high 41 assists and Christina Kirschner hit a percentage of .600 (7-1-10).
In the Invitational's championship match, No. 9 Florida (3-2) defeated No. 16 Wisconsin (2-1) 15-12, 16-14, 15-11.
The Rebels will be at home next week to host the Gameworks UNLV Invitational at the Thomas & Mack Center, Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9. The Invitational will feature five matches each day beginning at 9:30 a.m. Along with UNLV, Alabama, Boise State, Idaho State and San Jose State will participate.
