Volleyball Drops Opening Match At DePaul Tournament

CHICAGO - The UNLV volleyball team (3-4) dropped the opening match of the Blue Demon Invitational 3-1 (23-30, 30-24, 28-30, 21-30) to tournament host DePaul on Friday night. The Rebels managed only a .190 team attack percentage in the four-game match.

Sophomore Tarin Keith led the Rebels offensively with 15 kills and a .200 (15-8-35) attack percentage. She also contributed eight digs, four service aces and two blocks.

Sheila Ocasio-Clemente, playing for the first time this season after a stint with the Puerto Rican National Team, finished with nine kills, three digs and a team-high four blocks.

Nicki King picked up her first double-double of the season with 42 assists and 12 digs. She also added three kills and a service ace.

Leiana Oswald and Patricia Assuncao just missed double-double performances in the match. Oswald knocked down 11 kills with nine digs, while Assuncao finished with nine kills and ten digs.

Shannon Chase added eight digs as the libero.

DePaul was led by Kate Engel's 19 kills and 14 digs.

The Rebels will wrap-up tournament play on Saturday with a pair of matches. UNLV takes on Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 10 a.m., followed by a 3 p.m. match with Oregon.
