Volleyball Splits Final Day Of DePaul Tournament

CHICAGO - The UNLV volleyball team (4-5) defeated Wisconsin-Milwaukee 3-1 (30-21, 27-30, 30-26, 30-26) in the opening match on Saturday, but dropped the final match of the tournament 3-2 (23-30, 23-30, 30-27, 30-24, 13-15) to Oregon.

UNLV played one of its best matches of the season against Milwaukee, out-hitting the Panthers .318 to .217. Four Rebels finished with double-digit kills, led by Tarin Keith's 19. She also added seven digs, two blocks and three service aces.

Patricia Assuncao posted a .519 (14-0-27) attack percentage. She had an impressive 27 attacks without an error. Fourteen kills and 12 digs is her first double-double of the season.

Nicki King put together her second straight double-double. She finished with 51 assists and 11 digs.

Sheila Ocasio-Clemente added 10 kills with a .529 (10-1-17) attack percentage. She also contributed four service aces and three block assists.

Leiana Oswald hammered down 13 kills in addition to four service aces and nine digs.

Shannon Chase, playing libero, led the team with 13 digs. Tera Mayes finished with 8 digs, two assists and a kill.

UNLV was pushed to the limits in their second match, dropping the first two games before forcing a deciding fifth game. Keith and Oswald each posted season-high kills with 24 and 21 respectively. Keith picked up her second double-double of the season with 14 digs.

Assuncao managed ten kills against the Ducks, but lost a bit of her accuracy from the previous match. She hit only .135 (10-5-37), but added eight digs and a pair of assists to the match.

Ocasio-Clemente put together a solid match, finishing with eight kills, six digs, three service aces and three blocks.

Chase and Mayes contributed five and four digs respectively.

UNLV returns home Sept. 17 for a 7 p.m. match with Nevada, Reno before traveling to Fresno, Calif. for the Fresno State Quadrangular Sept. 20-21.
