LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team (3-2) rallied from a one game deficit to defeat Texas Tech 3-1 (25-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-23) in the Gameworks/UNLV Classic on Saturday. The Red Raiders, 2-3 on the season, were outblocked 32-6 in the four-game match.
Patricia Assuncao dominated the net, finishing with a season-high 21 kills, 17 digs and four block assists. She hit .450 (21-4-42) for the match.
Sarah Fachner added 7 kills with a .583 (7-0-12) attack percentage. She also had six block assists and three assists.
Christina Kirschner dropped 11 blocks on Texas Tech, one solo and ten assisted. She also finished with seven kills and three service aces.
Leiana Oswald contributed 15 kills, four digs and four blocks. Nicki King served up 43 assists, eight digs and four blocks. Tarin Keith posted 12 kills, six digs and two blocks.
Tera Mayes played her best match of the short season, digging seven balls and serving up one assist. Libero Shannon Chase added six digs.
California defeated Ball State 3-0 to maintain its undefeated season at 5-0. Ball State fell to 1-4 on the season, 1-1 in tournament play.
UNLV wraps up the Gameworks/UNLV Classic with an 11 a.m. match against Ball State. California takes on Texas Tech at 1:30 p.m. All-Tournament and MVP honors will be recognized following the final match.
