Rebels Lose Another Five-Game Thriller

Nov. 7, 2004

Final Stats

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV could not break the snide as the Rebels lost in five games to in-state rival Nevada, Reno 30-22, 24-30, 30-26, 27-30 and 15-6 extending UNLV's season-high losing streak to four matches.

Sunday night's match was senior night, as UNLV seniors Nicki King and Tarin Keith played their final home-match at the Cox Pavilion. King had a strong final night, posting a double-double with 55 assists and 15 digs. The night ended in disappointment though, as UNLV dropped to 12-11 overall, 6-6 in the Mountain West Conference. UNR improved to 17-6 overall, 9-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.

The loss to the Wolf Pack kept UNLV winless in its last home-stand of the 2004 season after loses to BYU and No. 17 ranked Utah. Heading into the three-match set the Rebels were 7-2 at home this season.

Salave'a Salaia led the Wolf Pack with a double-double of her own, knocking down a match-high 26 kills to go along with 15 digs. Teal Erickson added 19 kills and Karen Adams and Carly Sorensen each had a double-double as Adams had 10 kills and 15 digs and Sorensen added 10 kills and 11 digs. Tristen Adams handed out a match-high 63 assists.

UNR finished the match with a .262 attacking percentage, including a .500 clip in the decisive fifth game. UNLV hit a respectable .208 as a team, but struggled in the games it lost. They hit below .200 in games one and three and then hit for a -.118 in game five.

The Rebels were led by Brittani Lumsden, who knocked down a team-high 22 kills to go along with 12 digs. Maria Aladjova and Lauren Miramontes each added 13 for the Rebel offense. Jada Walker dug up 17 balls along for UNLV's defense.

The five-game loss was the second-straight time that the Rebels have dropped a match that went to the limit, having lost two nights before to BYU in five games. UNLV was 4-0 in matches that went five games before their last two such defeats.

UNLV will wrap up its regular season on the road at New Mexico on Nov. 11 and at Air Force on Nov. 13. The Rebels will then play in the Mountain West Conference Tournament, held Nov. 18-20 in Fort Collins, Colo.
