UNLV Loses First Game Of Northridge Tournament

Las Vegas - UNLV lost in three games, 30-25, 30-25 and 30-24 to Southern Methodist University on Friday night in the first game of the Northridge Tournament at the Matadome in Northridge, Calif.

Maria Aladjova led the Rebels with 13 kills, one of three Rebels to reach double-digits in kills on the night. Lauren Miramontes and Brittani Lumsden each had 10 for UNLV. Nicki King had 35 assists for the Rebels in her first match of the season.

The difference in the close game was attacking, as the Rebels committed 18 errors and hit just .212 as a team while SMU committed 12 and hit a solid .319 for the match.

Jacky Niederstadt led the Mustangs with 16 kills while teammates Kelly Larkin (12) and Stephanie Bennett (11) joined Niederstadt in double-figures.

UNLV continues play in the Northridge Tournament tomorrow as the Rebels play host Cal State Northridge at 11:00 am and then Cornell at 5:00 pm.
