UNLV Ends Northridge Tournament With A Win

Sept. 11, 2004

Las Vegas - UNLV capped the Northridge Tournament with a 3-0 win over Cornell on Saturday night in Northridge, Calif., breaking its two game losing streak and beating their former head coach in the process. The Rebels evened their record at 3-3 while Cornell remained winless on the young season at 0-3.

The Rebels won 30-21, 30-23 and 30-25 against their former head coach Deitre Collins, who resigned at the end of last season after coaching at UNLV for eight seasons.

Lauren Miramontes led the Rebels with a season-high 18 kills and Maria Aladjova chipped in 11. Senior setter Nicki King had a double-double with 39 assists and 13 digs and Jada Walker led a strong UNLV defensive effort with 16 digs.

Hayley Grieve led Cornell with 10 kills, but she was the only player to reach double figures.

UNLV will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to the Fresno State Invitational on Sept. 17 and 18. The Rebels will play Oral Roberts, Fresno State and San Francisco.
