Fort Collins, Colo. - In their 10th visit to Fort Collins, Colo., the UNLV Rebels (12-11, 8-3 MWC) made school history with their first-ever win on the road against the Rams (13-7, 6-4 MWC). With the 3-1 win (30-23, 26-30, 30-28, 30-25), UNLV snapped a 14-match losing streak to CSU. The Rebels are on a three-match winning streak and have equaled their highest win total (eight) since MWC play began in 1999.
UNLV out hit Colorado State .239-to-.126 in hitting percentages and 61-to-59 in kills. The Rebels hit above the .289 mark in three of their four games, with a .350 hitting percentage coming in game three. CSU only hit above .205 on two occasions and below .100 twice (.000 in game one and .080 in game four).
Lauren Miramontes led the Rebels for the 12th time on the year with her 16 kills against the Rams. Maria Aladjova followed closely behind with 14 kills. Aladjova's .393 hitting percentage was the highest for any Rebel with four or more kills. Brittani Lumsden and Michelle Banks fell just shy of recording double-doubles as Lumsden finished the match with nine kills and 10 digs, while Banks had nine kills and 12 digs.
Melody Nua had 43 assists, while Banks had a career-high seven in the match. Four players stopped 10 or more Ram attacks, with Jada Walker recording the most with 16 digs. Camille Cunningham had a career-high 14 digs and was followed by Banks' and Lumsden's numbers.
Dre Downs led the Rams with 16 kills and was followed by Tess Rogers' 15 and Casey Bauer's 11. Amanda Fahnestock held the highest hitting percentage with .429, but no other Ram with three or more kills hit higher than .176.
Up next for UNLV is a trip across the Colorado-Wyoming border to Laramie, Wyo., to play the Cowgirls of Wyoming at 6 pm PT. Wyoming enters the contest with a 8-13 overall mark and 3-7 following their 3-0 victory over San Diego State on Friday night.
