LAS VEGAS - The No. 13 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round score of 12-over-par 300 on Monday and finished fourth at the National Invitational Tournament, which was played at Omni Tucson National Golf Club (par 72, 7,094 yards) in Tucson, Ariz.
The Rebels finished 11 shots behind New Mexico, which won the team title at 14-under 850 after a final-round 2-over 290. Host Arizona was second at 7-under, followed by TCU at 3-under. UNLV finished at 1-under 863 in fourth, while California rounded out the top five at 4-over.
New Mexico's Nick Geyer earned medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 9-under 207 after shooting a final-round 2-under 70. TCU's James Sacheck was two shots back in second place.
UNLV's top finisher was Ji Moon, who tied for eighth place at 2-under 214 after a final-round even-par 72. Brett Kanda and Derek Ernst also finished in the top 20. Kanda tied for 14th place at 1-over 217 after a final-round 2-over 74, while Ernst tied for 18th at 2-over 218 after a final-round 3-over 75. Other UNLV players: Colby Smith tied for 29th at 5-over 221 after a final-round 7-over 79, and Jeremiah Wooding, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 73rd at 16-over 232 after a final-round 2-over 74. Eddie Olson withdrew from Monday's round.
UNLV's top-five finish marked its seventh in eight outings this year. The Rebels will be back in action March 30-31 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
