SALT LAKE CITY (UNLVRebels.com) - Two UNLV women's tennis players advanced to the singles quarterfinals during Friday's day three of the 2017 ITA Mountain Region Championships being played at the University of Utah's George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
Aiwen Zhu, seeded eighth and ranked 83rd in the nation, easily advanced by downing Whitney Turley of Utah, 6-2, 6-3. En-Pei Huang took three sets to win her match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, over Sasha Pisareva of Utah State.
Both of UNLV's remaining doubles teams lost in the Round of 16.
There will be two rounds of singles followed by one round of doubles Saturday, weather permitting.
Members from 19 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday each day in both singles and doubles.
