Arizona State Transfer Vitaliy Shibel To Join Runnin' Rebels

6-foot-9-inch forward is a graduate transfer and will have two seasons of eligibility at UNLV starting with this season.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball program received a signed commitment from Vitaliy Shibel, head coach T.J. Otzelberger announced Thursday.

Pronounced vigh-TAL-lee SHY-bull, he is a graduate transfer from Arizona State University who will enroll at UNLV this fall as a junior and have two seasons of eligibility beginning with the 2019-20 season.

The fourth commitment at UNLV under Otzelberger, Shibel, a 6-foot-9-inch 210-pound forward, started the first 11 games of the 2017-18 season as a redshirt freshman for the Sun Devils when they were ranked as high as No. 3 in the country. He played in all 32 of ASU's games that season, making a total of 20 starts. He missed the 2016-17 season at ASU with an injury and as a sophomore in 2018-19, he appeared in 17 games.

"We are looking forward to having Vitaliy in our program," Otzelberger said. "He has valuable experience as a starter in a winning, successful program and has the ability to shoot from the outside as well as play inside because of his unique combination of size and skill. He is a great person and a tireless worker. We expect him to make an immediate contribution."

Shibel, originally from Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, attended Lee Academy in Maine before beginning his college career.

He joins Jonah AntonioMoses Wood and Elijah Mitrou-Long as part of the Runnin' Rebels' 2019 recruiting class.
