SATURDAY'S PREVIEW...
UNLV (1-0) will play its initial road game of the season when it heads to a first-ever meeting with California (1-0) of the Pac-12 Conference on Saturday afternoon ... The Rebels are coming off the first of two bye weeks while the Golden Bears opened their season with a 34-13 win over visiting UC Davis over the weekend ... That means both teams opened with victories over Big Sky Conference opponents as UNLV played its earliest game in history and downed Idaho State, 52-21, at Allegiant Stadium on August 27 ... That victory marked only the third season-opening Rebel triumph in the last 13 years and UNLV will now be playing for its first 2-0 start to a season since 1999 (the first under legendary head coach John Robinson ... Cal marks the ninth member of the current Pac-12 configuration to face UNLV in football with only Stanford, Washington and Colorado never having played the Rebels.

REBELS vs. GOLDEN BEARS NOTES... 
These programs were supposed to originally meet in 2020 in what was slated to be the first game at Allegiant Stadium but the matchup was postponed because of the pandemic. Cal is now scheduled to make the trip to Las Vegas to open the 2026 season ... While it is relatively rare at this point to play programs for the first time, UNLV will face two teams for the first time ever in 2022 (Cal and Notre Dame) after doing the same thing just last fall (Eastern Washington and UTSA) ... The Rebels last played a Pac-12 team just last season, visiting Arizona State ... UNLV is 6-32 all-time vs. teams that currently make up the league but that includes a 2-14 mark vs. former conference-mate Utah ... UNLV second-year TE coach Nate Longshore was a starting QB at Cal (2005-08), including helping win a share of the 2006 Pac-12 title ... Four UNLV staffers formerly coached at Cal, including two coming directly from Berkeley ... Head Coach Marcus Arroyo served as the Bears passing coordinator in 2011-12; associate head coach/OLB coach Kenwick Thompson held a similar position at Cal from 2007-12; new DC/CBs coach Keith Heyward spent the 2021 season overseeing the Bears OLB before coming to town along with ILB coach Michael Bruno, who was on the Cal staff from 2018-21 in a quality control position ... UNLV recently had a trio of Cal transfers on its roster: 2020 starting QB Max Gilliam (at Cal in 2016), 2019-21 LB Vic Viramontes (Cal in 2016) and 2019 RB Biaggio Ali Walsh (Cal in 2017-18).
